Mad Mex, Oakland

One of several Mad Mex locations throughout the greater Pittsburgh area, this one in Oakland, on the corner of Atwood & Bates in South Oakland, is the original. A bar and Tex-Mex restaurant enjoying a reputation for enjoyment and “Big Azz Margaritas”, there’s a happy party vibe to the place. With vegan offerings throughout the menu including the option of vegan tacos, burritos, fajitas and more, there are also those little added extras like Daiya vegan cheese style shreds, Tofutti sour cream and vegan chipotle ranch dressing. No way is vegan an afterthought here; Mad Mex Oakland have been serving their Pennsyltucky fried tofu since 2008. Many of the items on the Mad Mex menu can have vegan and gluten-free substitutions made. Also doing their bit for the future, Mad Mex Oakland have earned a Gold Designation from the Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant Initiative.
