Massawa Restaurant opened in 1988 and is located on the corner of 121st street on Amsterdam Avenue.
Ethiopian and Eritrean food is traditionally served with injera (a home-baked, flat African bread made without sugar or salt) and eaten by hand. All entrees are served with two sides of vegetables and they can provide rice and utensils if you prefer.
Massawa offers exotic dishes, serving everything from spicy to mild flavors, and is known for its hearty vegan and vegetarian fare (although it serves non-vegan food as well). With a vegan section of the menu, ordering is easy and relaxed and you can choose from six different entrees for dinner.
The restaurant is equally suited to large parties or intimate date nights, and the team recommend you enjoy the local Ethiopian and Eritrean beers and coffee with your meal.
